The scan wasn't kind to it. I don't know why sometimes the scanner makes things look so grainy. It seems to pick up and then magnify the almost non-existent texture of the paper in this one. Annoying.
Anyway. This one was done for The Herscher Project, project 28, Fear's Playground. This one was based off a nightmare I had a few a years ago. Basically I have this slight fear of drowning...and I had this dream that this rather malevolent nixie was terrorizing this small town near the sea and killing off men and boys. It was a vastly creepy dream that I can still remember quite vividly.
Anyway, the dream began with her drowning a boy who had been out surfing...so...yeah. We get this.
Her tail is awesome! I like the concept, too, heehee. ^_^

I love the texture here, and the fins on the mermaid. Great use of lighting and colour. <3 Especially the blues.

Banned because someone thinks I care enough about them to put all of my hard work at risk and purposefully evade their blocks. I love it when people exaggerate things to get their way.
Come away, oh human child, to the waters and the wild, with a feare hand in hand while the world's more full of weeping...
than you may understand...
Wonderful choice of words to be paired with this dream/painting. The detail and compisition is stellar, be proud!
Thanks!! I'm glad you liked my choice of title. It took me a while to come up with something but that fit with part of the theme I was trying to get across--not every time a faerie promises to take you away, do they take you somewhere pleasant...

The greatest thing about being optimistic is all the people you annoy in the process.
Ouch that looks painful! The mermaid is beautiful, I love her tail. You really captured the dark mood, I like the skulls that show it isnt the first time she brought a guy to her place.
There are a lot of themes that run through the stock gallery many people have similar ideas but they pull them off in different ways. In this series of newsletters we will look at similar ideas but different outcomes.
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
When it comes to community spirit, `Rushy is a shining example. From participating in devmeets, to providing positive encouragement to other artists, `Rushy can always be found demonstrating what it really takes to be a true deviant. It's without any hesitation that we are delighted to award the Deviousness Award for July 2009 to `RushyRead More

Ah...it's nice to see art boiled down to such a simple principle.

One of these days I'll start to actual pay attention to what I'm doing when I paint.
